On Tuesday, October 4th, walking into Battle Creek Central, the Lady Knights swim team needed a win. Swim coach and Jumpstart teacher, Paul Mahar, had spent the prior week prepping the girls for this big meet. Mahar reminded the team that they could do something no other Lady Knight swimmer has ever done.

The Loy Norrix Lady Knights’ swim team has had more depth this year than in the past. To be considered a “varsity” athlete in swimming, one must swim something besides an exhibition heat in the 50 or 100 free. More underclassmen stepped up into these varsity level roles to help the team score more points against Battle Creek Central.

The diving program, coached by John Walker, has also stepped it up and helped to gain points for the team. The divers, including sophomore Katie Cox, junior Jena Burkey, and senior Keelei Sage, gained several points, putting the Lady Knights’ team on point to win at the second half.

At the end of the evening, the Lady Knights gathered around Mahar as the score was announced. Final score, 83 Battle Creek Central, 102 Loy Norrix.
