When you are with that special person, every moment feels so magical, but high schoolers need to wake up, and get back to reality. More often than not, high school relationships break off before students individual futures can happen. Sometimes trying to keep up with a relationship complicates their lives even more. Two people being faithful to just each other, in a  healthy relationship seems hard enough, but when you’re with hundreds of other people your age who you may like, makes it even more of a struggle.

“Relationships don’t work out in high school because it’s not really going anywhere unless you’re trying to get married,” said sophomore Magnificent Hanana from Loy Norrix.

Many students are trying to make a successful future for themselves, with college and careers in mind; getting married isn’t at the top of their list.

“High school relationships all depend on the couple, and fate. If it’s meant to be, then yay! But if it doesn’t last, then there’s obviously a reason why,” said freshman Jasmine Van Loo.

Like Van Loo, many students feel that serious dating does not always happen for high schoolers.
A study shows less than two percent of high school sweethearts end up getting married. Even if marriage did happen, the average divorce rate for first marriages is around 41 percent. Meaning, odds are high school sweethearts will not last.

“It depends on what your focus is, and why you’re getting in a relationship as to if they work out or not,” said freshman, Parker Gray.

You need to take into consideration what you want your goals in your life to be. If you are extremely focused on getting amazing grades or becoming very skilled in a sport, maybe trying to stay in a relationship is not the best idea for you. They are not just a thing to be kept on the side.

“I think relationships show you what you want and don’t want in a person.” said Van Loo.

When you get into a relationship with someone, you get to know them, their personality and what they’re like. This is important for future relationships because then you have an idea of what you are looking for in a person.

“If people put the effort into a relationship, and they really like each other, they can work out,” said Gray.

Although there are doubts of relationships working out in high school, some students keep them going. Gray for example is in a good, steady relationship, and still keeps up with other friends, sports, and grades.
The chances of being in a good relationship in high school seem very unlikely of working out, but for some students, their view is quite the opposite. Finding the one person you really love could take your whole life, not just happen to be your crush from high school.
