Growing up is about taking advantage of opportunities, living is experiencing new things and breaking out of your comfort zone.  The Loy Norrix Adventure Club, which is new this year, gives students an opportunity to go on adventures and experience things that they might not have done before.

“Adventure Club helps students become more social and involved in new activities outside of what they would normally do,” said sophmore Kristin Smith.

Alison Nelson, who teaches biology and astronomy is the advisor of this new club. She learned from her friend, who teaches in Chicago, about the idea of an adventure club and thought it was a really good opportunity for Loy Norrix students.  This club is in its beginning stages, but many people seem to be very interested in what it has to offer.

The first official adventure that the group went on was kayaking trip. They rented kayaks and were able to take a peaceful ride down a river.

“It ended up being a really beautiful day. The river was very slow so it was great for beginners,” said Nelson.

According to CMA the Adventure website, “When you encounter new sites, something opens up in your mind and heart and you can have new insights about old problems.”

This club opens up opportunities for Loy Norrix students to experience something outside of school.

The group’s second trip was horseback riding at the Wild West Ranch in Allegan this past Sunday. After their ride, they were able to cook hotdogs over a fire, plus students were able to associate with a variety of barn animals.

The beauty of this club is that it is not a year round commitment. If you want to go on just one or all of the trips, it is one hundred percent up to you.

The upcoming possible trips are not yet confirmed but some possibilities may include skiing, Climb Kalamazoo, ice skating, and paintballing. Students should keep their eyes open for activities that may peak their interest.

Adventure creates excitement and increases adrenalin, helps take your mind off of the stresses of school and is really fun. The Loy Norrix Adventure Club could be a fresh new and exciting way to have fun with your fellow classmates.
