Jake Gumbleton returning a backhand during conference finals to set the state record.

When Jake Gumbleton won his 84th straight match in a row on October 5th, he set a Michigan High School Athletic Association record.
Gumbleton said, “I felt relieved. There was a lot of pressure on me to do it. All season the goal was for me to break the record.”
After sophomore year, Gumbleton’s team and him were joking around talking about how there’s a record that he might be able to break.
Little did he know that a couple short years later, he would be able to complete this task.
Some tennis players from other schools would come into the matches against Gumbleton with the confidence that they would be able to beat Gumbleton. Gumbleton would always prove them wrong.
He also set another record on October 10th at the state regional competition. These were the last matches he performed on the Loy Norrix tennis team.
Gumbleton’s achievements has opened a world of new opportunities for him. Ending his high school tennis season has left a positive note on his tennis career.
