Honoring Bill Wright’s Passing as he Contributed to KPS in Many Ways

Knight Life would like to honor the passing of Bill Wright. Bill Wright passed away December 28th in his condo in Fort Myers, Florida. He contributed to Kalamazoo Public Schools in many ways.

Bill worked with students from Loy Norrix High School years ago. Bill helped them with interview and communications skills and offered incentives for grade and attendance improvements. All the students who stayed with the program from beginning to end either met or surpassed their goals.

Bill had recently worked with KPS elementary students. Bill had a challenge for 5th grade students called “Wright’s Reading Challenge.” Students and their teachers set reading goals based on the student’s individual reading level and log them on a giant chart. When the whole class met their goal, Bill would return and throw them a pizza party.

Bill also made a generous donation of books to the library of each school involved in the challenge. Bill took the completed Wright’s Reading Challenge posters and proudly displayed them on the walls of his office.

KPS Executive Director of Communications Alex Lee said, “”Bill’s business personality was certainly larger than life. And when you really got to know him, you found out his heart was even bigger. He did a lot for the young people in KPS, and we will be forever grateful.”

Special thanks to Alex Lee for his contribution to this article.
