Shorter hair, too many highlights, too much eyeliner, and too little focus on the future. No, I am not recollecting the appearances or habits of pop artists from the early 2000’s but the common characteristics of freshmen year of high school.
As the senior class at Loy Norrix counts down the days to Wednesday, June 3, 2015 they were also asked to remember the 2011-2012 school year; their freshman year. Below are the experiences, lessons learned, and the future plans of RuthAnn Riemer, a LN veteran, and Haley Klesz, a new comer to LN as of last year.
RuthAnn Riemer: The Veteran

 
Q: What has been your favorite part of High School so far?
A: Being able to find myself and figure out the responsibilities of growing up.
 
Q: How have you changed most from freshmen to senior year?
A: I’ve grown a lot by getting a job and learning how to be more independent.
 
Q: What is your favorite part about senior year so far, and what are you most looking forward to?
A: My favorite part is that I’m not working as much, so I can actually participate in things and have school spirit. And I am most looking forward to winning Winterfest.
 
Q: Most memorable moment from high school?
A: I guess my most memorable moment would be getting pantsed freshman year in the middle of the freshman hallway.
 
Q: What are your plans for after high school?
A: I’m going to go to college and probably major in journalism.
 
Haley Klesz: The New Girl
 


Q: How have you changed most from freshman to senior year?
A: I really don’t care about what other people think of me anymore. I’m also more focused on my future.
 
Q: What was it like to move from Clinton, MI to Kalamazoo?
A: It was a lot different. Clinton was an all white school with 160 kids in my graduating class. Then coming here with all different races and types of people, I was a little culture shocked. But I still had an open mind to it, and I like it better here now.
 
Q: What are you most looking forward to for senior year?
A: I don’t know, I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. Like, I’m ready for it [high school] to be over, but I’m not ready to face my future.
 
Q: Most memorable moment from Norrix?
A: Getting accepted to and becoming president of the National Honor Society.
 
Q: What are your plans for after high school?
A: I’m probably going to go to Grand Valley State University to study nursing.
