Not everyone plays organized sports, but this doesn’t mean they’re not an athlete. There are many activities that can be just as beneficial to your body as basketball or football. Skateboarding and snowboarding are these types of sports. These hobbies may not involve a label or a “team,” but they can be just as competitive and require just as much effort as traditional sports. “I have been skating for a while now and there has never been a day that I’ve lost interest,” said sophomore Drue Burkey.

In many traditional sports such as football or basketball, there is a clear goal, either to score a touchdown or a basket; however, in non-traditional sports, the sky is the limit. There’s no set norms; you can pretty much do what you want, when you want. “The adrenaline rush you get from landing a crazy trick is just amazing, something you won’t experience from anything else,” said senior Molly Gritter, who snowboards. People should rethink their opinion towards these individuals that are dedicating all their time towards these activities, rather than following the crowd.
