Marching Knights Take on Mackinaw City

BandmackinawOn Friday, May 22, the Loy Norrix Marching Band traveled north to perform in the Mackinaw City Memorial Parade.
“I think it’s important for us [the band] to get out and experience performing in bigger parades where bands from cities just as far come to. It helps us set goals for ourselves,” said color guard member and junior Jessica Imel.
The parade was held on Saturday, May 23 but the band used Friday as an extra day to explore the tip of the lower peninsula. The LN band students learned about Michigan’s geography and history of Mackinac Island while on this trip before sharing their musical talents with the crowd along the parade route.
“Riding a ferry, walking on Mackinac Island, and marching in Mackinaw City are just a few experiences that can’t be explained in words, they are meant to BE experienced,” said drum major and junior Martin Mueller.
The trip consisted of travel, food, carriage rides, exploration, and memories. The band had the opportunity to experience another city as well as togetherness while taking this trip that took months to plan.
“The memories that were formed can not leave my mind. The Mackinaw trip brought me happiness,” said Mueller.
