Track is a sport for everyone. It’s better for some more than others, but no matter how big, tall, short or small you may be, there is an event for you. If you’re not fast, you can throw; if you can’t throw, you can jump. There are endless opportunities. Track invites all types of people onto the team, not only to compete, but to create friendships and learn valuable life skills.
“My favorite part about track is the diversity of students that come together and support each other,” said senior Claire Khabeiry.
This year the men’s track team won the Don Lukens Classic (hosted by Loy Norrix) for the first time since 1989. Senior Evan Wheat placed first for the third year in a row. Wheat finished fourth in States last year and is excited to be back this year.
“Every day I work on getting better, stronger and jumping higher,” said Wheat.
Senior Joe Hruska has been on the Loy Norrix track team for four years. Hruska competes in the shot put and discus. He has placed first in every meet this year in shot put, and first, second or third in discus.
“I am excited for the conference meet and qualifying for states,” said Hruska.
