Bullying Awareness Comes to Loy Norrix

There are 4,400 deaths every year due to suicide. Suicide is the third leading cause of death among teenagers. We all need to take a stand against bullying to end the suffering of kids all over the world.

In 2000 Michigan was the eighth worst state involved in bullying. Over 300 thousand kids were involved in bullying throughout Michigan.

It’s not okay for any child to feel like they need to change who they are because other kids are so judgmental. We need to put an end to the harsh bullying in today’s society. Here’s some information on what to do to help stop the bullying and detect if someone is being bullied.

Warning Signs that a Child is being bullied

  • Frequent headaches/stomach aches, feeling sick or faking illness
  • Changes in eating habits, skipping meals or binge eating
  • Difficulty sleeping and nightmares
  • Sudden loss of friends
  • Decreased self-esteem
  • Self-destructive behaviors
  • Declining grades
  • Irritable or cries more often
  • Tries to avoid school and school events
  • Involvement in drugs/ alcohol

What you can do if you’re bullied at Loy Norrix

  • Talk to an adult you trust
  • Walk away from the bully
  • Stay calm
  • Try to hide your fear and act brave
  • Stick with good friends
  • Stay positive

What you can do to stop bullying at Loy Norrix

  • Talk to school leaders and let them know what you witnessed
  • Stay out of groups that bully others
  • Talk to the person who is being bullied and let them know that you are there for them
  • Speak up when you see someone being bullied
