“Playing is a release from the everyday world,” said violist Ryan Grover.

When you have practiced so hard and for so long, it has finally time your work is put to the test. For Ryan Grover her chance has come. Grover has got the opportunity to play in the All-State Orchestra at the Michigan Music Conference, last Thursday through Saturday.

Grover has been playing the viola for seven years. She spends two hours of her day on her instrument to get the best possible sound. In music there is always room for improvement and always something to be pushing for. For Grover, she plans to spend the rest of her life with the viola. Being her own motivation, she pushed herself throughout her whole life but never wanted to quit.

“I have gotten really stressed but never thought about quitting,” said Grover.

On the 17th and18th, Grover practiced with members of the orchestra for a performance on Saturday, the 19th. She had the opportunity to play first chair in the prestigious group of individuals. To be first chair, Grover had to be the best player and show responsibility to lead her section. To get to her position, Grover had to audition against some of the best players in the state.

“I didn’t think I did very well in the auditions but when I found out I got first chair I was excited,” said Grover.

After high school Grover plans to continue her love for the viola and attend college for music, and specifically the viola. Hopefully, someday she will pass her love for the instrument on to others by teaching.

After the performance, Grover reflects on how she did.

“I did pretty well but there is always room for improvement,” said Grover.

If you happen to see Ryan Grover, congratulate her on her incredible talent and her success in the All-State Orchestra.
