Green School will meet today in room B-14 after school from 2:30-3:30. All are welcome! AAC will be open today from 230-330 in the following rooms; English in K1, Math in the library, science in C17, ESL support in K5W, and study hall in C16. Students remember to drop your pennies in your class jug in the Athletic Office. Pennies are positive however any silver you drop in another class jugs counts as negative points for that class. The team with the most points after lunches today will win. The winning class will keep all the money in all 4 jugs for their class account. Today is Celebrity Day. Tomorrow is blue and white Spirit Day. Get creative and participate in your Winterfest! Looking to get involved in a sport this winter? The Girl's Bowling team is looking for more student athletes to join. If you're interested, go to the athletic office Attention seniors!! The final deadline to purchase a senior ad or baby picture for the yearbook is Sunday, February 12! While you're there, don't forget to buy your yearbook - they're selling fast! Loy Norrix Baseball will have an informational meeting next week Wednesday Feb 11th. The meeting will be right after school in the weight room. We will start around 2:30. If you are able to stay after the meeting we will have a short team workout. We will be done no later than 3:45. Our black history month person of the day is Zora Neale Hurston Zora Neale Hurston was an American author, anthropologist, and filmmaker. She portrayed racial struggles in the early-1900s. One of her most popular works was Their Eyes Were Watching God. The fictional story chronicled the tumultuous life of Janie Crawford. Hurston broke literary norms by focusing her work on the experience of a black woman. Hurston was not only a writer, she also dedicated her life to educating others about the arts.

Baldwin gained fame as a social activist in addition to being known as an author; he dedicated his life to analyzing the alienation felt by minority groups living in the United States and to the cause of gaining rights particularly for racial minorities and for the LGBTQ community. Baldwin's works helped to raise public awareness of racial and sexual oppression. His honest portrayal of his personal experiences in a national context challenged America to uphold the values it promised on equality and justice.

This meeting is for those signed up to travel as well as parents/guardians This Saturday your Loy Norrix bowlers took on Otsego. The boys traded wins in the baker games, winning the first, but coming up a couple of pins short for the 2nd. We did win the series so no harm done. Then came the regular games and this is when we went to work. Led again by Hunter Conolly, 246 and Anthony Fotis, 220 we coasted easily to another Knights victory. The girls had some trouble with the ladies of Otsego, Losing both baker games. They quickly rallied back and won the 1st regular game. Leading the charge was Zoe Wazny with games of 148 and 159. Due to an injury, one of our girls had to drop out. Being short handed put the 2nd game just out of reach. Although we fought hard we came up just a little short. Next week we are in Three Rivers to take on Vicksburg. This may be the hardest test yet for our undefeated boys. Congratulations to our Hockey team with two good results over the weekend. The team tied Essexville Garber 2-2 on Friday but won the rematch on Saturday 3-2 to hit the victory column. Their next game is Wednesday vs. Jackson Lumen Christi. Congratulations to the Women’s Varsity Basketball as they moved to 8-5 on the season with their 28-19 win over Gull Lake. That is the first win over Gull Lake in nearly a decade. The Women’s teams will host Kalamazoo Christian on Wednesday. Don’t hear your team's results? Please make sure your coach submits an email for announcements or reports the result. The Ski Teams finally compete today and Wednesday at 4:30 at Timber Ridge. Tickets for tonight’s Men’s Basketball at Kalamazoo Central are available at GoFan.co Search under Kalamazoo Central since it is their home game. Freshman 4:15/JV 5:45/Varsity 7:00 Congratulations to Ana Dunfee, Wendy Miedema, and James Rocco for being three finalists in the highly competitive MHSAA Scholar Athlete Award. There were over 1500 applications. They didn’t finish in the top 6 but they made it through the first 2 rounds of judging to make the finals. By doing so, they doubled the amount of finalists we have had in the last 20 years. They helped make Loy Norrix finish with the second highest number of finalists for the year in the state. Congratulations to Ana, Wendy, and James!

Our Swimmer Knights protected the castle last night against the Bridgman Bees. Swimmers got their job done in the pool, divers on the board for a team win! Knights are 5-2 on the season. See it come to life at the dance next Friday after the Men's Basketball games vs. Portage Northern until 11:00. The cost will be $5. Get ready to enjoy a fun week! Congratulations to Seniors Ana Dunfee, Wendy Miedema, and James Rocco who were all announced as finalists in the MHSAA Scholar Athlete Competition. They have tripled the number of finalists we have had at Loy Norrix over the last 20 years. With over 1,500 applicants we will see if they win one of the thirty two $2500 scholarships on January 27. AAC will be open today from 230-330 in the following rooms; English in B21, math in B13, Spanish in K11, and study hall in the library KU Hockey takes on the Kalamazoo Eagles at 5:15 today at Wings West Ice Arena. $7 single game admission. We won both baker games with decisive fashion, setting a new high score of 227 in the process. Moving on to the regular games would not get any better for the Huskies. The 1st game would end with us only losing 1 point. Devon Harris would lead the way with a 220 game. Haneef Hampton and Hunter Connolly would contribute with games of 214 and 211. On the girls side Hope Dunn led the way with a 159. And Emma Lowry established a new personal best. Congratulations to Senior Anthony Fotis on winning the Singles portion of the Portage Northern Bowling Invitational yesterday. Keep it going! Congratulations to the Women’s V Basketball team on their 44-40 over an 8-3 Gaylord team at the Cadillac Showcase on Saturday. The Knights are 6-3 overall and will travel to Portage Central tomorrow.
