Spider-Man has been swinging from movie to movie since 2002. While changing faces, dimensions and fighting enemies, he has been in most of our hearts since childhood. 

No matter what suit you like or who is rocking said suit, Spider-Man is no menace. Actually, the true menace is the debate going on behind the scenes.  

Asking around, many other people were not happy with the removal of Spider-Man. A Senior, Katie Brugh, explained her anger about it all, “I was kinda pissed off. I loved watching Spider-Man in the MCU while growing up.”

“I was really irritated. I first thought that Sony was going to reboot Spider-Man, and I didn’t want that to happen,” said The Kalamazoo Spider-Man, a local Kalamazoo kid who dresses up like Spider-Man and visits children in the hospital to give them hope. He explains his thoughts about Spider-Man leaving the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Disney and Sony are at each other’s necks over this amazing superhero. No one really knows what is going to happen for the time being, but for now, the web slinger is out of the MCU. 

The back and forth all started when Disney sought out 50% of the profits from future Spider-Man movies, previously being a $4 billion acquisition of the comics company in 2009, which Sony denied. Then, Sony offered Disney 30% of the profits if they add Venom into the MCU. Finally, Sony offered to sell the wall-crawler back to Disney for 10 billion dollars. There are no further deals in the air at the moment. 

What holds next for the MCU without Spider-Man will be interesting to see as they set him up to be the next Iron Man, since he sacrificed himself at the end of “Avengers: Endgame.” That was the whole hidden plot behind ‘Spider-Man: Far From Home.” So, with many characters’ story arcs pretty much over, the fate of Spider-Man in film will be a roller coaster. 

With Phase 4 of the MCU coming up next, we won’t have to worry about Spider-Man for a while, as Phase 4 will be cosmic based. It is possible that Spider-Man 3 will arrive in late-June, early-July 2021. However, there’s currently no release date in that window on either Marvel or Sony’s slates. 

As of Thursday, September 26, Sony and Disney have come up with a deal they both can agree on. The deal was that Disney gets 25% of the profits from the film and all merchandise rights, while Sony gets the remaining rights to Spider-Man. So, there will be at least one more film featuring Spider-Man with both Disney and Sony in the works together. 

“We have had a great collaboration over the last four years, and our mutual desire to continue was equal to that of the many fans,” said Robert Lawson, chief communications officer for Sony Pictures Entertainment in a Disney Interview 2019. “We are delighted to be moving forward together.”
