The library will be closed for all lunches today due to class activities. Those assigned to the library are advised to knock and wait patiently. The Loy Norrix Forensics team has been slaying it these past few months, delivering speeches and performances that have dazzled judges and audiences alike. Now it's your turn to see what the buzz is all about. The forensics team will be hosting Forensics Night, a free performance in the auditorium, on Wednesday, Apr. 24 at 7:00 p.m. Come see your fellow students deliver the performances they've been working on all season! The Kalamazoo Promise Signing Day event is approaching. All seniors are invited to attend the event downtown at the Arcadia Festival Site on May 10. There will be live music, karaoke, a lip sync battle, raffles, food trucks, carnival games and more. Please make sure if you are Promise eligible, your Promise Application and Scholarship Acceptance Form are submitted before the day of the event. Please reach out to Coach Moore for more information. Last Friday, our track teams competed in the Ram Classic in Rockford for the first time. Even with the windy conditions, we still had some good performances: Jackson Lam had the biggest day with a 4th in the 800 and a 5th in the 1600, while Aquarius Johnson achieved 4th place in the 400. Jaylind Motton and Nevaeh Burrel scored in the high jump, and Ciarra Freeman scored in the 200 as well. Meanwhile, at the Kalamazoo Central dual meet, the girls won and the boys only lost by a few points. The scores were 92-68 for the women and 77.5-85.5 for the men. Ciarra Freeman, Sofia Bogard, Macy Daniels, Abby Milliken, Eloise Dunfee, Nevaeh Burrel, Oscar Dunfee, Jackson Lam, Audrina Wellington, Erica Holtz, David Jones and Jaylind Motton all had wins in their events. Lastly, all runners are competing in events today; varsity runs at Portage Northern and JV runs at Portage Central. Come support your classmates and friends! Link Crew is all about learning new leadership skills, helping others, and having a lot of fun. Esports Club members, there will be a short meeting in Mr. Wood's room, C19, to discuss another in-school event, the upcoming playoffs and plans for next year. The meeting will start at 2:30 p.m. and last for around 30 minutes. Contact Mr. Wood if you have any questions. Congratulations to our women's soccer team on their 2-0 win over Kalamazoo Central! The team is now 6-1 in the season. The next home soccer game is Monday against Gull Lake High School. The Sword and Board club will meet Thursday in room C16. All tabletop gamers and games are invited to join. The library will be closed for all three lunches today due to class activities. Those assigned to the library will need to knock and wait to be let in. The Loy Norrix Book Battle team took 2nd place in their competition over the weekend, beating out Portage Central and Portage Northern but losing narrowly to Kalamazoo Central. Congratulations to Aidan Zajac, Annika Freeman-Piper, Bella Pringle, Elyse Albertson and Malia Meibeyer-Folkema for their performance! AAC will be open for tutoring from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the following rooms: English in B11, Math in M12W, Science in B14, Social Studies in C19, Spanish in A18 and Study Hall in A19. AAC will not be open Tuesday and Wednesday due to mandatory state testing. The Sword and Board club will meet Thursday in room C16. All tabletop gamers and games are invited to join. This past weekend, the men’s volleyball team hosted a tournament and ended with a 2nd place finish with a close loss to Greenville in the championship. Tonight, Loy Norrix is hosting another home game against Gull Lake and Calhoun Christian. The game starts at 5:30 and tickets are $5. The Loy Norrix varsity golf team had a very successful tournament on Saturday, winning 4th place out of 16 teams. The format was overall score with an alternate shot format, in addition to a scramble format and two individual scores. Isaac Scavarda and Xander Gorham took first place with a score of 1 over par. Aaron Teal and Sam Gagie won the scramble event with a 67. The team also had Griffen Moore win a medal for his score of 84. The varsity team also has a SMAC East tournament today at Milham Park Golf Course. We wish the best of luck to our Knights on the golf team! Who’s ready to play Ultimate this spring? Ultimate is a fun, fast-paced team sport that has elements of soccer, football, and basketball combined. Kalamazoo United Youth Ultimate invites everyone to join our high school team this spring. We are a mixed team, open for all Kalamazoo Public Schools high schoolers of all genders. If you would like to learn more about the program, we invite you to come to the information session in Mr. Hernandez’s classroom, A16, on Apr. 18 immediately after school. Come to the LNHS Library tomorrow from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for our first Book Fair Pajama Party. There will be free books, free snacks and free stuff all around. Our varsity baseball team defeated Schoolcraft on Friday, winning the first game by a score of 4-1. Senior Isaiah Anderson got the win, striking out 4 batters over 4 innings pitched. Junior Isaac Scavarda got the save. Senior Lucas Frankart lead the Knights at the plate with 4 RBI, game including a 3-run home run in the 4th inning. The Knights won the second game by a score of 4-3. Sophomore Sam Oberlee got the win, striking out 2. Junior Jackson Bennett got the save. Senior Sam Davis had a two run double to break it open. The boys are back in action tonight vs Harper Creek at 4:30 p.m., with varsity playing at home and JV away. Tonight is the first home game of the season for the men’s volleyball team. Games start at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the gate for $5 cash. AAC will be available for tutoring from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the following rooms; English in B11, Math in M12W, Science in B14, Social Studies in C19 and Study Hall in A19. There will be no Spanish AAC today. There will be no AAC during testing days this week. There will be no Sword and Board Club meeting this week due to state testing. Congratulations to our women's soccer teams! Both JV and Varsity swept Sturgis High School last Saturday with the final score being 8-0 for both games. If you are interested in participating in any sports in the fall, you and your guardian must register online at PlanetHS.com and sign your consent form, pay the insurance fee and upload a current physical (dated Apr. 15, 2023 or later) as soon as possible. Please stop by the Athletic Office if you need any assistance. Today is the first official Chess Club meeting of the year. It will be held during all three lunches in room D10. Please pick up a purple lunch pass from Mr. Bellware, grab your lunch, and come to play during your assigned lunch shift. Anyone who beats Mr. Bellware wins a custom-made chessboard. AAC will be open today from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the following rooms: English in D10, Math in C16, Social Studies in D12 and Study Hall in B22. Our staff and students surpassed our target goal of 72 pints with 74 pints collected, saving a total of 222 lives. Those who donated or attempted to donate helped make the work a better place. AAC will be open today from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the following rooms: Math in C16, Science in C17, Social Studies in K2, ESL Support in K5W, Spanish in A18, Chinese in K1, SAT Math Prep in B13 and Study Hall in B22. Book Club will meet Tuesday, Mar. 19 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the library. The NHS blood drive is coming up. The blood drive will be held Mar. 18, from 7:45 to 1:30 a.m., in the auxiliary gym. If you are 16 or older, you can sign up between  Mar. 4 and Mar. 15 during all three lunches. You can also get information regarding height and weight requirements, as well as preparation and post-donation care during any lunch period. Donate blood and make a difference! Round 2 of March Madness of Book Characters is underway! Will Katniss defeat Ender? Will Harry Potter survive a fight with Naruto? Place your votes by Friday, Mar. 15 to find out. AAC will begin the week of Mar. 18. Teachers will receive an updated schedule by the end of the week.
