PRESS RELEASE
KALAMAZOO PUBLIC SCHOOLS PREPARING FOR REMAINDER OF SCHOOL YEAR
Today, Governor Whitmer signed an Executive Order suspending face-to-face learning at K-12 schools for the remainder of the school year. This order discusses remote learning and ensures school employees will be paid for the remainder of the year.
Kalamazoo Public Schools Interim Superintendent Gart Start said, “Kalamazoo Public Schools has been working diligently in anticipation of this executive order to develop alternative learning plans to best serve our 13,000 students. Although the details of the plan are still in development, we can assure families that we will be offering appropriate and accessible learning opportunities for our students. We know that families have many questions about the impact of this announcement, and we will continue to share information as plans are made.”
KPS will continue offering “grab-and-go” meals for students at two dozen distribution sites three times a week. In addition, learning packets are available at each site. KPS has developed an online resource for families, The Learning Hub, which is continually being updated. For a list of food distribution sites and a link to The Learning Hub, visit www.kalamazoopublicschools.com.
Even though our schools will not be open for the remainder of the school year, KPS will provide educational and social/emotional supports for staff, students, and families.
