November 14, 2012 many say the best goal in soccer history hit the net. Zlatan Ibrahimović, striker on the Sweden national team put a shot past the England goal keeper Joe Hart on Friends Arena field in Stockholm. The goal was a bicycle kick from twenty five yards out that soared into the bottom right corner.
Loy Norrix freshman soccer player Grace Labadie has known the game for many years. When asked if she has ever done a bicycle kick she stated, “I’ve never attempted one, but to be able to do one like him would be ridiculous,” said Labadie.
Bicycle kicks goals are a tremendous way to score a goal and the one Ibrahimović scored is one that many will leave out of their discussions, except for the Puskás award judges. The Puskás award is given to one player annually. This award is given to the star of the year that scores the best, most interesting goal throughout the season. Unfortunately for Ibrahimović, the judges made their nominations exactly one day before his goal took place. This has brought up many discussions on re-evaluating all the goals to include Ibrahimović’s goal.
Loy Norrix soccer player, junior Tanten Buszka, saw the Ibrahimović goal while watching regular ESPN highlights in class and responded, “I interrupted my class to tell people about it, it was the best goal in soccer history by far,” said Buszka.
With Ibrahimović not being credited for such an amazing goal, it leaves soccer players and fans disappointed yet inspire to see goals like this in the future. Instead of winning the 2012 outstanding year filled with great goals, Ibrahimović must wait to hopefully see his goal next year in the nomination circle.
The winner of the Puskás award will be chosen on January 7th 2013.

I believe Neymar had a better goal. This could have simply been a stroke of luck. I don’t see it happening again.
