“I don’t know where I’d be without baseball and football,” said freshman Brady Charles.
Brady started playing sports when he was 9 years old. In elementary school, he began to play baseball and football, and he continued to play because of his deep-rooted love of the game.
“Watching a lot of football and baseball games as a kid made me want to start playing,” said Brady.
His favorite moment from baseball is when he hit his first inside-the-park home run, and his favorite football moment is when he got a 25-yard catch to get his team to the 5-yard line.
The worst moment he can remember was when he was tackled and broke his wrist during the Battle Creek Central game. He couldn’t play baseball or football and he was out for the rest of the season.
“I was lined up, I ran a route and I got slammed, and I broke my wrist and felt like my season was over,” said Brady.
Brady’s relationship with his teammates has been admirable. Teammate Michael McDonald’s favorite moments were hanging out with Brady in practice and working out because Brady worked hard. McDonald acknowledged that and took a liking to Brady, and their friendship blossomed.
McDonald and Brady’s favorite football positions are cornerback and wide receiver because they get the most action and like hitting people in games.
Brady’s favorite baseball position is centerfield because he can catch fly balls and make dives. When playing sports during the school year, it can come with some challenges.
“Playing sports has not affected my school life, but practices can sometimes mess up my homework schedule,” said Brady.
Brady’s favorite team he has played for is the Loy Norrix football team because of the new environment, new people and higher stakes. Brady plans on continuing his baseball and football career throughout his time in high school.
“When I’m playing football and baseball, everything goes away,” said Brady. “I think that’s why I love it so much.”
