You wake up late from your blaring alarm clock. After watching the news and browsing the snow day calculator to see if any signs indicate a snow day for tomorrow morning, you see that school has been canceled due to cold weather.
Most Loy Norrix freshmen like having snow days. They enjoy taking a break from school and having time to themselves.
Some students, like freshman Jackson Peterson, have superstitions about snow days.
“I put ice in the toilet the night before to have a high chance of a snow day,” Peterson said.
Besides putting ice in the toilet, some students think wearing pajamas inside out will magically create a snow day.
Another freshman, James Mayer, also has a positive view of snow days.
“I think snow days are really good. It’s nice to get a day off, and it’s good to take a day for yourself, regroup, and spend time with my family,” Mayer said.
According to The Effect of Snow Days on Student Performances, by Doug Gavel of Harvard Kennedy School, a snow day here and there can greatly benefit a student. While school can cause a lot of stress and problems, some students just want some time to themselves and to relax.
There are many things to do on a snow day, but one ideal activity freshman Gabriel Solitro enjoys is sledding. Solitro also loves kicking back and relaxing on a winter day.
“I like to watch TV and sleep in,” Solitro said.
There are many fun, exciting things to do indoors or outdoors on a snow day. Some activities Solitro mentioned are just a few of the other amazing things to do on a snow day.
Indoor Winter Activities To Help Beat Those Michigan Snow Days, by Rana Makki, who writes for the Detroit Moms blog, recommends creative activities, such as cuddling with a loved one and watching a movie.
“I enjoy snow days a lot,” freshman Zack Siegel said. “They allow me to spend time with my family and cats, to have a relaxing day kicking it back and watching a movie.”
