May 22nd was the Loy Norrix softball team’s senior night which means that is was the last ever home game for seniors Paige Blinkiewicz, Briana Kent, Hannah Roberts, Katie Srodes and Jordan Liddle. The game was against Kalamazoo Central. There were two 7 inning games with a dedication to the seniors in between and announcing done by Andrew Laboe.
“I have played varsity softball at Norrix for four years. During that time there has been a lot of changes. The team has gone through its ups and downs since freshman year but senior year has seemed to be filled with more ups than downs. We have grown closer this year than before,” said senior Hannah Roberts.
Each senior was given a set of questions to answer so they could share with the Knights fans their favorite memory from softball at Loy Norrix, what they intend on doing after the season and who they have appreciated and would like to thank.
“I loved spending the time with my mom practicing softball and honoring her too,” said senior Paige Blinkiewicz.
Senior night the players were able to reflect on their four years of playing varsity softball, and what effects it had on the team.
“I’ve really enjoyed my years playing softball for Norrix especially my last year. The changes have allowed us to grow closer to each other and know how to enjoy the sport even during the hard times, we understand each other and how to work together on the field for the same goal, and have fun while doing it. There may be stressful situations where we need to hold them or score some crucial runs, but this year we’ve been able to pull together and pull through to get the win,” Said Roberts.
The seniors also thought about the challenges and limits faced in their years.
“All sports have those practices that push you to your limits to prepare you for game situations. But when you have your teammate alongside of you every step of the way with encouragement and support it makes it that much easier and all worth it cause you know it will all pay off,” said Roberts.
Usually the ending of a sports event means shaking hands with the other team and telling them good game, this event ending with the softball team throwing cupcakes at each other and giving the seniors one last memory to add to their softball careers.
