Do you speak multiple languages? If so, you might qualify for an award that looks great on your transcript and gives you something else to brag about at graduation. The award is called The Seal of Biliteracy and it recognizes students who are proficient in English and one or more languages by high school graduation. Ask any language teacher for more information if you are interested in this opportunity. The deadline to apply is Monday September 30th.

It’s Senior Meeting time! This is a REQUIREMENT for ALL seniors! 

Students: The Family Health Center Dental Mobile Unit will be visiting Loy Norrix this Fall. If you are interested in seeing a dental hygienist see the Communities In Schools Staff in B-Wing for more information.

The WMed Medical School, here in Kalamazoo, has a free internship for KPS students in 10th, 11th, or 12th grades. It meets one Saturday morning a month from October to May. To apply, look for the flyers around school or talk to Mrs. Johnson in D18. Application is due October 4.

Auditions are just around the corner! We need talented students to audition for this year’s Loy Norrix Musical! If you want to act, sing, dance, or just have fun acting goofy on stage, we want you! Auditions are Tuesday October 1 from 2:30 to 5:30 in the Choir Room J10. You can see Mr. Lafferty in J11 or Ms. Bergh in J10 for an audition packet, to ask any questions, or to get some audition help. Hope to see everyone after school on Tuesday! 

Youth in Government is having their first meeting this upcoming Tuesday, October first after school from 2:30 to 3:15 in Room D18. Come to learn more and get introduced to all things YIG! That’s Tuesday after school in Mrs. Johnson’s room, D18.

Chess Club is Wednesday during all three lunches in Room D10. Please get a purple pass from your teacher, pick up your lunch, and come to play. 

The Knight’s soccer teams went undefeated last week, with the Varsity tying #1 ranked Portage Central 1-1, defeating Portage Northern 4-0 and tying undefeated Milford 0-0. The Junior Varsity defeated Portage Central 1-0, the Huskies 2-0 and Milford 1-0. Both teams travel to Mattawan for the first round of the SMAC Tournament on Tuesday October 1st.

There are only 10 spots remaining on the Ireland and Scotland Adventure! Do not miss out on this trip of a lifetime and earning 3 free college credits!! See Ms. Ward in D-11 to receive a raffle ticket that you can bring to the meeting. Bring your raffle ticket filled out so you can win a great prize! The raffle will be during the informational meetings Oct. 2 and Oct 16 both meetings will be at 6:30 pm in D-11. You only need to attend 1 meeting. You must be present at an informational meeting with a parent or guardian to win!

IT”S THE 35th ANNUAL GREAT PUMPKIN PAINTING PARTY, LOY NORRIX!! Stay after school Tuesday October 15 from 2:30-3:30 to paint a pumpkin. Show Ms. Ward or another designated staff member your painted pumpkin that you are donating and you will receive an extra credit coupon to be used in one of your classes. The Pumpkin Painting Party is a fun, creative way to spend some time with your friends! Pumpkins will be provided free of charge!

The cross country teams competed in Otsego Saturday in the Bulldog Invitational. 38 out of the 50 runners earned season or personal best times. The biggest time drops were by Tyler, Paul, Pap, Zach, Laylah, Lyla, Amelia, Sille, Josi, Nadiya, and Jenna Whittle. We also had three medalists: Sofia was 26th, Nico was 14th, and Jackson was 3rd. We race at Portage West next Saturday at the Portage Invitational.

The Portage Invitational is this Saturday at Portage West Middle School off Romence Road near Oakland. There is an open race in the morning before the teams compete. If any Norrix student beats any of our varsity runners, Coach Schmidt will reimburse your entry fee. For any Norrix student faster than 20 minutes for guys or 25 minutes for girls, Coach Schmidt will still make sure you get a free breakfast after the race. AAC will be open today for tutoring from 230-330 in the following rooms; Social Studies in A19, Math in B13, ELA in A21, Science in C19, Spanish in A18, and Study Hall in the Library. The Testing Room will also be open today in the AWing office area.

Sword and Board will meet Thursday from 230-330 in room C16. All tabletop gamers and games are invited to join.
