On Aug. 28, freshmen poured into the cafeteria ready to learn more about what their new school has to offer. Upperclassmen at tables eagerly waited to inform the freshman about the different clubs, sports and electives they can participate in.
“It’s important [to attend] because you get to meet new people and see new things,” said freshman Aleesha McCrary-Harley. “You get to meet upperclassmen and people in your class that you may not know with the same interests.”
Events like New Knights Day also give underclassmen opportunities to talk to upperclassmen who share similar interests. Freshman Zach Siegel found his niche in cross country after meeting upperclassmen members of the team.
“They’ve really helped me,” said Seigel. “I’ve played a lot of sports, and they’re the nicest people I’ve ever met. They’re really accepting and motivating, that’s why I’m in it.”
With the school year starting up, events like New Knights Day are important to help freshmen familiarize themselves with the school and the students they will be interacting with.
“There’s a lot of opportunities and stuff to do,” said Siegel. “You feel a little bit more accepted and a little bit more comfortable.”
