Everyone at some point in time has thought that the friends they have in high school are going to be the friends they’ll have until graduation. According to the stage of life website, you are most likely not going to have the same friends as you will when you graduate.
“I think that friendships change in high school because you don’t know how to communicate properly. Also choose your friends wisely. Know who they are and get a chance to hang with them alone, to see how they are alone versus how they act with others around,” Loy Norrix sophomore Hailey Timmerman said.
Ever since freshman year I have had a best friend on and off. Freshman year we got into a really big fight and when we made up sophomore year. We decided to move in with each other after high school. When junior year came around, we got into another big argument and that’s when I realized that I did not want to live with her nor could we be friends for the rest of our lives.
In other cases, students have many friendships where you only speak to each other when you have a class with them. And right when your schedule changes, so do your friends.
“I don’t stay friends with certain people because we don’t see each other as much after we don’t have classes together,” Timmerman said.
Even though everyone has rough patches with their friends, according to the website calorie count about, 40 percent of teenagers won’t leave their group of friends out of fear that they won’t find more friends.
“I would never leave my group of friends, but even if I wanted to, I wouldn’t because it would be hard to find another group of friends in such short period of time. And worst of all, I could end up not finding a group of friends and be friendless,” Timmerman said.
Unfortunately, people change a lot throughout high school, and there’s nothing you can do about it. Just keep your head up and remember that high school doesn’t last forever.
