Forensics Team Finishes Strong at State

By Aubrey Butts

The Loy Norrix forensics team has had a tremendous season, wrapping up with a strong finish at the State Championships. The team has several strong members, including first timer and State qualifier, junior Nils Miron.

“It was pretty awesome,” Miron said of qualifying for the State championships. “Most of the season was pretty hectic. I tend to procrastinate, but with help from Ms. Weeks, I got better.”

Loy Norrix Drama teacher, Celia Weeks, is the coach for the Forensics team.

Returning members that also experienced great individual success include junior Josh Johnson, who took fifth out of twenty-four in Storytelling, and senior Mariah Issac, who took third out of twenty-two in Poetry. The multiple team received second out of fourteen teams from around the region. The team consisted of sophomore Joe Santamaria, junior Robbi Cook, senior Gabby Vargas, junior Nic Slocum, senior Val Flipowicz, sophomore Grace Santamaria, junior Lillian Slack, and freshman Melanie Mitchell.

The 2012 Forensics State Finals were held May 4th through 5th at Western Michigan University. Teams were from all over Michigan, including Jackson, Portage, Lansing, Muskegon, Saginaw, and Gaylord.
