Men’s Basketball wins season opener

On Tuesday, December 14 the Loy Norrix Men’s basketball teams hit the court for their first game of the season against Mattawan High School. The freshman, Junior Varsity and Varsity teams all played with strong performances from all teams. 

The freshman team played first at 4:15. It was a close game all the way through but Mattawan pulled ahead and won 48-56. Next up is Junior Varsity, tip-off was 5:45. The JV Knights started off strong and kept the momentum all the way through. JV Knights will go on to win 67-61. 

Tip off for the Varsity game was at 7:00 and the game kept people glued to their seats. Back and forth the Mattawan and the Knights went. By the end of the 1st quarter Norrix was down 12-15. In the second quarter the Knights didn’t back down and pulled in front right before halftime to take a 27-26 lead. It was a constant back and forth trend throughout the 3rd quarter and 4th quarter. Late in the 4th quarter the Knights began to pull away with a 58-52 lead with two minutes left. But Mattawan mounted a comeback and took the lead. But with 1.3 seconds left in the fourth quarter, Senior James Rocco scores a game winning layup. The Knights will go on to win 66-65.

The Knights look to continue their strong start as they take on Portage Northern on December 16. This will be their last game before their BCC Winter Classic Tournament on December 28th.
