The Loy Norrix women’s soccer team took on cross town rivals Kalamazoo Central on Wednesday, May 6. Both teams had high hopes of winning the game, but only one succeeded at that: Norrix. With a score of 6-1, Norrix took home the win.
The game started off with a bang. Central’s senior goalkeeper, Sarah Visser, slide tackled a Norrix forward, which awarded Norrix a penalty kick. Junior captain Grace Labadie knocked it home and scored. To add to this goal, Labadie scored another two goals in the second half to give her a hat trick and two assists for the night. Sophomore Lena Wood tapped two easy goals in, bringing her season total to three goals. Senior Czoey Hohler had her first goal of the season after junior Grace Labadie’s free kick that junior Jane Labadie helped bobble over the goalie for the goal. Overall, the second half proved to be the better half for Norrix.
The only goal that came for Central was off of a penalty kick. After a handball in the box, Central was awarded a penalty kick. Central senior Marie Pregenzer calmly kicked the ball around Norrix’s senior goalkeeper Lauren Dougherty. Dougherty was only tested three times the entire game, while Central’s Visser was tested six times, all of which went in for the Knights.
