Knights of the Neighborhood is a club that represents Norrix in Kalamazoo. Our meetings are on Tuesdays from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in room B13. Men’s Basketball tryouts are a few weeks away. You can pick up a schedule and paperwork you need in the athletic office in order to participate. Tryouts will be Nov. 13 to 15 from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Before tryouts, you should file your physical, register through Planet High School, and pay your insurance fee. Interested in wrestling this winter? The first official practice is Nov. 13, from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. All are welcome. AAC will be open today for tutoring in the following rooms: social studies in K13, math in B23, English in B21, science in C17, ESL support in K5W, Spanish in K12, SAT math prep in B13, and study hall in C16. The Sword and Board club will meet this Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 in room C16. All tabletop gamers and games are invited to join. Final exams are right around the corner. If you’re a freshman, come join Link Crew for a Snack and Study after school on Wednesday, Nov. 8, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. A Snack and Study event is where you can get tutoring help and snacks. Make sure you bring your freshman ID and have your own transportation home. We need crew members to work on our musical “Oklahoma!” We are looking for about 20 dedicated students to help with lights, sound, ushering, backstage work and more. Please pick up an application from Mr. Lafferty in room J11. Applications are due Wednesday, Nov. 8. Are you a hidden Pokemon master? Come prove it on Nov. 29, as the esports team presents their first Pokemon Battle Day event in Mr. Wood’s room, C19. Keep an eye out around the school for fliers with QR codes for the signup form and a Google Classroom containing information on rules and former events, or join using classroom code u3wziea. Teachers are also welcome to participate. Any other questions can be sent to Mr. Wood. Looking for a new winter wardrobe? Green School is hosting a clothing swap on Nov. 30 in the Cafeteria from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Please bring any clothing you would like to swap, excluding undergarments and socks, to room B14 in the weeks prior to the event. There will be a $3 entry fee and each person can take as many articles of clothing as they wish. Attention Key Club members: there is a meeting today in room D13 at 2:30 p.m. Stop by the library to pick up a Veterans' Day coloring page! Color it in and drop it in the box in the library by 2:30 p.m. Thursday. Pictures will be delivered to veterans on Friday. Loy Norrix Travel Club will have their first parent and student meeting for those traveling to Scandinavia this summer. Jackson Lam qualified for the State meet by finishing 8th at the Regional meet at Portage West Middle School on Friday after school. Please congratulate Jackson on a wonderful race and wish him the best on this upcoming week. Besides Jackson, our other runners competed at the Regional as well. Many placed much better than projected and competed well. While no one else qualified for State, there were some really good performances and finishes. We want to wish a farewell to seniors Amelia, Danny and Cash, for a great cross country career with us. Thank you all. We look forward to NXR and the track seasons.

The cost is $60, payable to the Maroon Foundation, and due on the first night of tryouts. Men’s Basketball tryouts are a few weeks away. Are you interested in running for office someday or working in politics? Our Youth in Government team is a fun and exciting way to learn about how to be an elected official and get laws passed. This year, our Youth in Government team has a lot planned and is ready to compete against hundreds of other Michigan students in the actual chambers of the Michigan Capitol. Come find out more at our Youth in Government meeting after school today in Mrs. Johnson’s room, D18. Interested in wrestling this winter? There will be conditioning and tryouts today though Thursday from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m. in the auxilary gym. First official practice is Nov. 13 from 3:30 to 6:00 p.m. All are welcome. The SMAAC conference recently voted on All-District teams for volleyball. Congratulations to Zoe Reeves and McKenna Bradley for making the East Division's 2nd team and to Riley Ketchum, Sophia DeAnda and Taliyah Hanks for receiving honorable mentions. Their next match is at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 1 at Gull Lake versus Portage Northern.  AAC will be open today for tutoring in the following rooms: math in M12W, English in B11, science in B14, ESL support in K1, Spanish in K12, and study hall in C16. In their 25th year of international travel, they would like to invite students and interested adults to join them in this adventure. LN Counselor Rebecca Learner has more information on this adventure in the Counseling Office and will also be available in the library this week from 2:30 to 3:00 p.m. A student/parent meeting is being planned for the 2nd week in November. All pumpkins will be donated to local community agencies to spread fall cheer. Make sure you get your extra credit coupon after you paint your pumpkin and enjoy the Fall Fest activities of games and crafts. There will be an Esports meeting Thursday, Oct. 26, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in Mr. Wood's room, C19, to discuss our first school wide Esports activity.  Everyone is welcome. Knight Life did not receive information about AAC today. If you have any questions about today's AAC sessions, please ask any one of your teachers. The Sword and Board club will meet Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in room C16. All tabletop gamers and games are invited to join. Interested in joining the Latinx Club? Please join us this Wednesday, Oct. 25 from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in room A18. You can also join our Google Classroom using code rmm4v4d. If you have any questions, please see Mrs. Castillo in the library or ask students Stephanie Garcia and Manuel Bello. The conference meet for cross country was held in Battle Creek over the weekend. The women's team finished 8th and the men's team finished 3rd. Out of the 37 runners, 30 had their best time of the season or best time ever. Nearly everyone competed well and improved their position throughout the race. Individually, there were some amazing times. Sofia and Danny were only five seconds away from All-Conference Honors with personal best times. Jackson and Dylan were 7th and 8th respectively, and earned honors with personal best times as well. This was the fastest men's team in over 20 years with eight of our runners finishing in under 17:40 in the 5k. They will race again Friday in the regional meet at Portage West for a chance to run in the state meet. GSA will meet in the library today from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. to browse the stacks and enjoy some time with friends. There will be an informational Ski Race Team meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 25 at 6:30 in the Loy Norrix cafeteria.
