The 2024 Loy Norrix Accolade Yearbook will be ready for distribution next month! If you want to remember when everything happened this past year, make sure you buy a yearbook before it’s too late. We are now officially under 200 books left, so don't delay. You can pay by bringing $70, cash or check, to room K3, or online at www.yearbookordercenter.com with order number 12613. Have you ever wanted to visit a castle? Travel Club will be visiting four different castles as they travel to Ireland and Scotland in the summer of 2025. This educational trip will be 12 days long. Scholarships and financial aid are available. Students can earn 3 college credits, and teachers can earn 3 CEUs. Informational packets can be found by the main office, near the bathrooms by the cafeteria and outside room D11. Contact Ms. Ward in D11 or Mrs. Learner in the guidance office for more information. There will be live music, karaoke, a lip sync battle, raffles, food trucks, carnival games and more. The track teams competed and succeeded at both Portage Central and Portage Northern last Friday. JV men placed 3rd with 72 points, while JV women placed 5th with 49 points. The men's and women's Sprint Medley relay mixed 4x400 relay teams all took 1st while several other relay teams secured second place. At the varsity meet, Jackson Lam won the 1600 and 3200 meter races; the 4x800 relay team also collectively won. Ciarra Freeman, Aquarius Johnson, Sofia Bogard, Jaylind Motton and several other relays also finished top 3. We host 2 meets this week: one on Tuesday and the Don Lukens Invite on Friday. The library will be closed for all lunches today due to class activities. Those assigned to the library are advised to knock and wait patiently. The Loy Norrix Forensics team has been slaying it these past few months, delivering speeches and performances that have dazzled judges and audiences alike. Now it's your turn to see what the buzz is all about. The forensics team will be hosting Forensics Night, a free performance in the auditorium, on Wednesday, Apr. 24 at 7:00 p.m. Come see your fellow students deliver the performances they've been working on all season! The Kalamazoo Promise Signing Day event is approaching. All seniors are invited to attend the event downtown at the Arcadia Festival Site on May 10. There will be live music, karaoke, a lip sync battle, raffles, food trucks, carnival games and more. Last Friday, our track teams competed in the Ram Classic in Rockford for the first time. Even with the windy conditions, we still had some good performances: Jackson Lam had the biggest day with a 4th in the 800 and a 5th in the 1600, while Aquarius Johnson achieved 4th place in the 400. Jaylind Motton and Nevaeh Burrel scored in the high jump, and Ciarra Freeman scored in the 200 as well. Meanwhile, at the Kalamazoo Central dual meet, the girls won and the boys only lost by a few points. The scores were 92-68 for the women and 77.5-85.5 for the men. Ciarra Freeman, Sofia Bogard, Macy Daniels, Abby Milliken, Eloise Dunfee, Nevaeh Burrel, Oscar Dunfee, Jackson Lam, Audrina Wellington, Erica Holtz, David Jones and Jaylind Motton all had wins in their events. Lastly, all runners are competing in events today; varsity runs at Portage Northern and JV runs at Portage Central. Come support your classmates and friends! The Loy Norrix Book Battle team took 2nd place in their competition over the weekend, beating out Portage Central and Portage Northern but losing narrowly to Kalamazoo Central. Congratulations to Aidan Zajac, Annika Freeman-Piper, Bella Pringle, Elyse Albertson and Malia Meibeyer-Folkema for their performance! AAC will be open for tutoring from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the following rooms: English in B11, Math in M12W, Science in B14, Social Studies in C19, Spanish in A18 and Study Hall in A19. AAC will not be open Tuesday and Wednesday due to mandatory state testing. The Sword and Board club will meet Thursday in room C16. All tabletop gamers and games are invited to join. This past weekend, the men’s volleyball team hosted a tournament and ended with a 2nd place finish with a close loss to Greenville in the championship. Tonight, Loy Norrix is hosting another home game against Gull Lake and Calhoun Christian. The game starts at 5:30 and tickets are $5. The Loy Norrix varsity golf team had a very successful tournament on Saturday, winning 4th place out of 16 teams. The format was overall score with an alternate shot format, in addition to a scramble format and two individual scores. Isaac Scavarda and Xander Gorham took first place with a score of 1 over par. Aaron Teal and Sam Gagie won the scramble event with a 67. The team also had Griffen Moore win a medal for his score of 84. The varsity team also has a SMAC East tournament today at Milham Park Golf Course. We wish the best of luck to our Knights on the golf team! Our varsity baseball team defeated Schoolcraft on Friday, winning the first game by a score of 4-1. Senior Isaiah Anderson got the win, striking out 4 batters over 4 innings pitched. Junior Isaac Scavarda got the save. Senior Lucas Frankart lead the Knights at the plate with 4 RBI, game including a 3-run home run in the 4th inning. The Knights won the second game by a score of 4-3. Sophomore Sam Oberlee got the win, striking out 2. Junior Jackson Bennett got the save. Senior Sam Davis had a two run double to break it open. The boys are back in action tonight vs Harper Creek at 4:30 p.m., with varsity playing at home and JV away. Tonight is the first home game of the season for the men’s volleyball team. Games start at 5:30 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the gate for $5 cash. Sword and Board Club will not meet today due to Spring Break. If you ride the Duke Metro bus, please see the flyers in the office or any of the TV monitors around the school for changes in the bus route from Mar. 4 through October. Service to Bronson Boulevard and Whites Road will be restricted.
