Some of the toughest teams in the state were at the Jackson Cross Country Invitational Friday and Saturday. The girls finished 16th and the boys finished 19th. Joe Meyers finished 5th overall with a personal best of 15:40 and Ella Schnell finished 8th with a personal best of 19:00. Half of our runners ran season or personal best times in spite of the hot and humid weather. Cristian Huerta and Grant Kahler dropped almost a half of a minute off their bests. Georgia Hill dropped almost a minute off her season best. Sam Allen went under 19 minutes and Nolan Tribu went under 18 minutes. Please congratulate all our runners on their hard efforts. There is no AAC today due to a staff meeting. AAC will be available Tuesday and Thursday only this week. There will be Basketball Weight Training from 2:30-4 and Open Gym 7-8:30 today September 23, 2019. All Athletes interested in Trying out for Basketball in the winter, and are not involved in a fall sport. Are strongly encouraged to participate in all preseason basketball activities. Any questions please reach out to Coach McDonald.  The 8th annual clothing drive will begin today with our first pick up this coming Friday, September 27th.  Please bring any type of gently used clothing item to the teacher of your choice.  The top 2 winning classes at the end of this drive will receive a continental breakfast. The last day will be Friday, November 15th. Attention Students come join the Key Club!!!! The next Key Club meeting will be tomorrow, Tuesday, September 24th in Ms. Nelson's room K10 at 2:30 Ms. Learner will be running the After School Grad Point lab in room K5W on Tuesday and Thursday this week from 2:30-4:30. You must communicate with your counselor before attending so that they can register you for this credit retrieval program.  If you have any questions, please stop by the Counseling Office.  Travel club trips for 2020 to Paris and Scandinavia will have an information meeting on September 26th at 7pm in room A-12.  Bring you parents and learn about the trip of a lifetime.  Enrollment packets are all over school, pick one up and see Ms. Van Lieu in A-12 or Mrs. Lewis in C-15. Attention Class of 2021 Executive Board members:  We will leave from Mrs. May's office this Thursday at 2:30 to visit 2 venues for our 2021 Prom.  We will return to school about 4:30, please plan accordingly. Attention Norrix students that attended the United Nations International Day of Peace-focusing on Global Climate Change yesterday, please invite yours friends and family downtown and join us at the Arcadia Commons area TODAY from 3-6.  This is an international movement of young people to pressure lawmakers into making changes to help stop Global Warming! Are you a senior interested in attending Kalamazoo College for math or science?  What about attending WMU’s School of Nursing? The Heyl Scholarship pays not only for tuition and fees in these programs, but also pays for your books and living expenses, including study abroad!  If you are interested in applying, please talk to your math or science teacher, or stop by Mrs. Witt-Thomas’s room (C-19) to sign up for an informational meeting next month. Seniors: Check your KPS email for messages from Miss Nesbitt, your Promise Pathway Coach. She has online sign-up forms for colleges and more! Today Ferris State University will be at the 4 Corners. We are looking for 10 students who are motivated, have a positive attitude, make good grades, work well in a team setting, responsible, and not afraid to try new things.  The Third 90 program will give you an opportunity to participate in meaningful projects in environmental sustainability. The team works with college faculty and college students. There will be 2 visits to the Kalamazoo Nature Center, 2-3 college campus visits and 2 after school workshops. If you are interested, pick up an application in M14, Mrs. Young's room or K10 Ms. Nelson's room. The deadline to submit an application is today, September 20th. SSR is 1st hour today Today, September 19th there will be an event in the Auditorium on Global Climate change from 2:30-4:30.  Come learn about Global Climate Change and what we each can do to help slow the process. Also, On Friday, Sept 20th in the Arcadia Commons the city of Kalamazoo is hosting an event about Global Climate Change.  You can catch the 2:40 city bus and it will take you downtown.   There will be a green school meeting today after school in B14. We will be picking up bottles and working in the A-wing courtyard. Come be a part of the change! All are welcome! There will be an Esports club meeting after school today, September 19th, at 2:30 in Mr. Greeley's room, B-13. We will be discussing upcoming events like the parents' meeting, competitions, and the first Loy Norrix Super Smash Brothers tournament. We hope to see you there! The Loy Norrix Freshman Volleyball team competed at the Coldwater Freshmen Invitational this past weekend. They defeated Coldwater and Delton Kellogg to win their morning pool, but were knocked out in the first round of the Gold bracket after a tough loss to Schoolcraft. Reese Link led the team in most consecutive serves, while Diamond Mabon dominated the left side in spite of an injured ankle. Tomorrow, Wednesday they have their first away game against the Gull Lake Blue Devils. Wish them luck! SSR is 1st hour today AAC is Monday through Thursday from 2:30 to 3:30 you can come get help with your class work in C21. Please look for flyers posted in each of your classrooms for additional information. And now for a few notes from the Administrators: We have some students who are missing their education in their 3rd hour class because they are taking multiple lunches.  This is considered truancy, students will be assigned detentions for taking multiple lunches. Also please remember to remove your hats and hoods upon entering the building and remember to have them off any time you are in the hallways, cafeteria or any other common area.  We have issued reminders to students who have struggled to remember this; however, because we are in our 3rd week of school, we will be issuing detention and please check your KPS email account each day. Notifications will be sent to your account for lunch and after school detentions and other important messages. Detention notifications will be emailed after the school day ends for detentions scheduled for the following day. This next reminder is for teachers and students: Please remember that the Wing Hallway Passes are meant for your wing only, students may not use them to go to the office or elsewhere.  Please use a white hall pass for anything else.  Additionally: Only one person per pass, Only issue after the 1st 30 and before the last 15 minutes of class. No cell phones out while on a pass or in an office.  Thank you for being respectful of the expectations Yoga Club begins today Tuesday, September 17th from 2:45-4:00 in Rm. J-11. Come relax and de- stress with us. We have the yoga mats, so just wear comfy clothing. We hope to see you there!
