This past Thursday, your Loy Norrix Band and Orchestra traveled to Plainwell High School to perform at the District 11 Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association Festival. Both groups earned a 1st Division rating, the highest possible achievement at Festival. This was the 5th straight 1 for the LN Band, and the 8th straight 1 for the Orchestra. Congratulations to all our Band and Orchestra members! The Loy Norrix Forensics team had a great showing at their first team tournament this weekend at Grand Rapids Christian. Liam Braun, Hollis Masterson, and Elias Nagel-Bennett all qualified for the finals in their respective events. Yacine Lo and Braeden Davis took FIRST PLACE in a Duo event that was absolutely loaded with talent. The Loy Norrix competitors combined to give the Knights first place overall in their division. Way to go Knights! The Men’s Basketball District will begin with a 5:00 P.M. game on Monday, March 7 with a game against Gull Lake. The game will be played at Coldwater High School. Third period classes will be competing in a door decorating contest to show off important women and information. Doors need to be done end of today, March 4th and the winning class will get a celebratory breakfast on the day of your final. Attention Key Club International members. Congratulations to Mr. Wagner's 5th period class for turning in the most coats during the Loy Norrix Key Club Drive! Over 60 coats and jackets were donated during this special event. Congratulations to the Women’s Basketball team on their improved season and a great effort in their final game last night. It was a 4 point game with five minutes left but Gull Lake held off the Knights for a 51-39 win. It was a much improved performance and awesome to see the effort. Thank you to the Seniors! Congratulations to the Sophomores for winning Pajama Day on Monday and showing us all they have tremendous school spirit. Wednesday is Retro Day. Need an idea? Everyone votes for the Senior Court, the Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors vote for their classmates as well. The results will be announced at tonight’s Men’s Basketball game. All students need to buy a game ticket for $3 in the Athletic Office by Noon today. There will be no Student game tickets sold at the door. This is a closed game to students from other schools. There is a limited amount of student tickets. Court members and Winter Athletes should pick up their tickets as well in the Athletic Office by Noon. An approval list must be done after that so if you plan to attend make sure you take care of getting your ticket by Noon. This weekend the bowling teams competed in our regionals. Although we had some good games, we didn't fair too well, finishing 11th out of 17 schools. I would like to acknowledge Haneef Hampton for setting a new high game or for bowling his best all day. In the singles competition, we had not 1 but 2 bowlers quality for the state finals. Congratulations and good luck to Anthony Fotis, and Hope Dunn. They both finished 7th out of more than 100 bowlers. Great job all the bowlers should be proud. Some of your Loy Norrix Knights competed in the Indoor Track and Field State Meet in Ypsilanti this past weekend. Trevor Watts ran a personal best 8.81 seconds in the 60m hurdles to qualify for the semifinals where he just came short of making the finals. He finished 14th in the state. The men's 4x800m relay of Sam Allen, Hank Perkins, Nolan Tribu, and Oskar Wiedenhoeft ran a personal best team time of 8:28.1 finishing 12th in the state and 3rd best team time for our school in the last 20 years. Sam Allen also competed individually in the 800m. He finished 24th in the state with a time of 2:03.27 which was 8 seconds better than his best time last year. Ana Dunfee battled sickness but still ran the 1600m. Her time of 5:25.59 was good enough for 39th in the state and 13 seconds better than her best time last year. Congratulations to state qualifiers: Men’s Swimming and Diving- The 400 Free Relay Team of : Roman Wassink, Joss Brent, James Harn, and Tony Parlato who set a school record on Saturday while qualifying for the State Meet. They will compete on Friday and Saturday March 11 and 12 in Holland. Wrestling- Heaven Cole will represent the Knights at the State Wrestling Finals this Friday and Saturday at Ford Field. It is the first ever Women’s Wrestling State Final. Heaven qualified last weekend in the Regional Tournament. Bowling- Hope Dunn and Anthony Fotis will represent the Knights in the MHSAA State Individual Finals this Saturday in Allen Park. Hope and Anthony both finished 7th in Friday’s Individual Regional to qualify. Women’s Basketball- the team will face Gull Lake in the District Quarterfinal tonight at 7:00 P.M. at the Battle Creek Central Fieldhouse. Winter Fest starts today with Pajama Day Teachers please fill out the Google Form and send it back to the Athletic Office. Voting will begin today at Noon for Winterfest Court and will last until Noon tomorrow. The Court will be announced at tomorrow nights Men’s Basketball game. Tomorrow will be Jersey Day.

On Wednesday, our choirs went to District Choir Festival. They performed two songs and were scored by judges. Advance Choir received a 1 rating and earned 103 out of 120 possible points. Master Singers also received a 1 rating and scored 113 out of 120 points. A new advanced Geology class will be offered next year here at Loy Norrix. It is a two trimester class covering many exciting topics in the Geosciences. Upon completion you will have an opportunity to test for 4 college credits. Why take Geology? Geology is a highly visual, hands-on science that studies real-world problems. Starting salaries of geosciences are on par with chemists and exceed biologists. 60,000 geoscientists will be needed for the national workforce by 2030 If you took Earth Science and really enjoyed it, consider taking Geology. A new advanced Geology class will be offered next year here at Loy Norrix. It is a two trimester class covering many exciting topics in the Geosciences. Upon completion you will have an opportunity to test for 4 college credits. Why take Geology? Geology is a highly visual, hands-on science that studies real-world problems. Starting salaries of geosciences are on par with chemists and exceed biologists. 60,000 geoscientists will be needed for the national workforce by 2030 If you took Earth Science and really enjoyed it, consider taking Geology.
