The Loy Norrix forensics team took third place in the top division at this weekend’s “Best of the West” invitational. Once again the Knights took both top spots in the duo event, with Catie Frink and Ellen Terzino taking first place, while Yacine Lo and Braeden Davis took second. In poetry, Meg Elfring took 5th place and Josephine Velo took 4th. In broadcasting, Kameron Long took 6th place, while Liam Braun took 4th. Norrix also had more competitors qualify for the semi-finals than we have all season. Go goose! If you applied for a CTE or EFA course, notifications will be going out this week for those that got in! If you have a question, or want to make sure you're on the waitlist if you didn't get in, please email your counselor. AAC will start up today for the new trimester. After school tutoring will be available from 230-330 Monday through Thursday as long as there are no staff meetings. Please check with your teachers for an updated room schedule. Seniors - it's time to get your ticket to this year's Grad Bash, which is an all night post graduation party, with lots of fun for everyone! Tickets are only $30 and can be bought on the KPS website. We hope to see all graduating Seniors What do Flamenco dancing, the ancient walled city of Salamanca, and the painted fairytale castle of Cascais near Lisbon have in common? They are just a few of the delights of the cultures we will encounter when we travel to Spain and Portugal in June of 2023. This new destination for the Travel Club is proving to be very popular and we would love to tell you all about it so that you don't miss out! We still have room for you, your friends, and your family on this trip. If you are ready to change your life in this amazing way, please attend the information meeting on Wednesday, March 23 at 6:30 PM in C-15, Mrs. Lewis' classroom. Congratulations to Loy Norrix students: Abigayle Smith, Sushila Riley Stegman and Koryania Robinson along with advisor Dr. Noreen Heikes attended Michigan's State FFA Convention last weekend. Students competed in the State Agriscience Fair and received State Degree, Academic Excellence and Outstanding Junior awards. These Loy Norrix students along with other students from KRESA's Veterinary Science CTE course conducted original research studies and prepared scientific papers, which they submitted to the State Agriscience Fair. Loy Norrix student Abigayle Smith and Madilyn Stratton of Portage Central took home the Gold Award for their Weather Conditions in Correlation with Parasite Presence in Goats project. Thank you to everyone who auditioned for the play "And Then There Were None." The cast list will be posted after school today on Loy Norrix Performing arts social media pages and outside Mr. Lafferty's classroom J11. Please stay tuned for opportunities to help with the play through tech, crew, and production. AAC will start up on March 21st for the new trimester. Interested in donating blood to save lives? If so, sign up for the Loy Norrix Blood Drive which will take place Monday, March 21. You can donate on your own if you are 17 or older, or students the age of 16 can donate with a parental consent form. Registration and information about the blood drive can be found in the cafeteria during all three lunches throughout the rest of the week. Students in Ms. Van Lieu's Tri 2 Yarn class - your pillows and belts are all sewn and ready for pickup. Please come before or after school or any lunch. Seniors - it's time to get your ticket to this year's Grad Bash, which is an all night post graduation party, with lots of fun for everyone! Tickets are only $30 and can be bought on the KPS website. The Loy Norrix Black Student Union will have its next meeting today, Thursday, March 17th in the library. Come on down as we discuss some important information regarding our club. If you wish to make your voice heard in terms of student representation at Norrix and have a good time building a sense of community, join us. If you will be graduating in June of 2023, know that we love having graduates along and this trip would be a fantastic way to conclude your LNHS experience while preparing for the wonders and challenges of the real world. If you are taking any level of Spanish course here at school, this would be an unparalleled opportunity to immerse yourself in the language you are studying while also experiencing the culture and traditions of a rich heritage. This past weekend the Loy Norrix Forensics team took 3rd place overall in the top division at the Portage Northern tournament. Norrix took both top spots in the duo event, with Braeden Davis and Yacine Lo finishing 2nd, while Ellen Terzino and Catie Frink took 1st. Elias Nagel-Bennett took 2nd overall in impromptu, while Liam Braun and Hollis Masterson both placed in the finals for Broadcasting. Meg Elfring took 5th place overall in the Poetry event. Way to go Knights Baseball tryouts will be today after school in the gym. 9th and 10th graders should report to the varsity locker room at 2:30. 11th and 12th graders report to the locker room at 3:45. Make sure you are fully registered on planet HS before showing up to tryouts. See Coach Rickli in the CWing with any questions. This past Thursday, your Loy Norrix Band and Orchestra traveled to Plainwell High School to perform at the District 11 Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association Festival. Both groups earned a 1st Division rating, the highest possible achievement at Festival. This was the 5th straight 1 for the LN Band, and the 8th straight 1 for the Orchestra. Congratulations to all our Band and Orchestra members! The Loy Norrix Forensics team had a great showing at their first team tournament this weekend at Grand Rapids Christian. Liam Braun, Hollis Masterson, and Elias Nagel-Bennett all qualified for the finals in their respective events. Yacine Lo and Braeden Davis took FIRST PLACE in a Duo event that was absolutely loaded with talent. The Loy Norrix competitors combined to give the Knights first place overall in their division. Third period classes will be competing in a door decorating contest to show off important women and information. Doors need to be done end of today, March 4th and the winning class will get a celebratory breakfast on the day of your final. Attention Key Club International members. Anyone not already doing a spring sport is encouraged to come out for track. We will have non-mandatory practices and conditioning all week. Official practice starts March 14th after school at the start of the new trimester. We are looking for sprinters, people who can throw, and people who can jump. No experience is necessary. Come join a winning tradition. People who are looking to condition for fall or winter sports like football, volleyball, soccer, basketball, or swim are encouraged to come out. Calling all actors! Congratulations to Mr. Wagner's 5th period class for turning in the most coats during the Loy Norrix Key Club Drive! Over 60 coats and jackets were donated during this special event. Congratulations to the Women’s Basketball team on their improved season and a great effort in their final game last night. It was a 4 point game with five minutes left but Gull Lake held off the Knights for a 51-39 win. It was a much improved performance and awesome to see the effort. Thank you to the Seniors! Congratulations to the Sophomores for winning Pajama Day on Monday and showing us all they have tremendous school spirit. Wednesday is Retro Day. Need an idea? Everyone votes for the Senior Court, the Freshman, Sophomores, and Juniors vote for their classmates as well. The results will be announced at tonight’s Men’s Basketball game. All students need to buy a game ticket for $3 in the Athletic Office by Noon today. There will be no Student game tickets sold at the door. This is a closed game to students from other schools. There is a limited amount of student tickets. Court members and Winter Athletes should pick up their tickets as well in the Athletic Office by Noon. An approval list must be done after that so if you plan to attend make sure you take care of getting your ticket by Noon.
