This weekend the bowling teams competed in our regionals. Although we had some good games, we didn't fair too well, finishing 11th out of 17 schools. I would like to acknowledge Haneef Hampton for setting a new high game or for bowling his best all day. In the singles competition, we had not 1 but 2 bowlers quality for the state finals. Congratulations and good luck to Anthony Fotis, and Hope Dunn. They both finished 7th out of more than 100 bowlers. Great job all the bowlers should be proud. Some of your Loy Norrix Knights competed in the Indoor Track and Field State Meet in Ypsilanti this past weekend. Trevor Watts ran a personal best 8.81 seconds in the 60m hurdles to qualify for the semifinals where he just came short of making the finals. He finished 14th in the state. The men's 4x800m relay of Sam Allen, Hank Perkins, Nolan Tribu, and Oskar Wiedenhoeft ran a personal best team time of 8:28.1 finishing 12th in the state and 3rd best team time for our school in the last 20 years. Sam Allen also competed individually in the 800m. He finished 24th in the state with a time of 2:03.27 which was 8 seconds better than his best time last year. Ana Dunfee battled sickness but still ran the 1600m. Her time of 5:25.59 was good enough for 39th in the state and 13 seconds better than her best time last year. On Saturday the Loy Norrix Forensics team sent select members to MSU to compete in the Spartan Invitational. Liam Braun finished in first place out of 14 competitors in the Broadcasting event, and Elias Nagel-Bennett finished first place out of 22 competitors in the Impromptu event. These combined victories helped Loy Norrix win first place overall in the Sparty Division. Way to go! This past Saturday was the Loy Norrix Bowling teams last match and position round. The boys had an outside chance at taking 2nd place. Unfortunately that was short lived as we were not able to get past Three Rivers, losing 17-13. It was a hard fought match. Anthony Fotis led the way once again. Leaving only the 10 pin in the last frame for a 299, then following it up with a 232. Handed Hampton also contributed with a 214 game. Some of the highlights of the awards ceremony Anthony Fotis had the high game (279) now 299. And the high series (481) now 531, also holds the high average (196) Hunter Connolly has the 11th highest average in the league. On the girls side Hope Dunn had the 4th highest average (146) Giulia Camba was the girls most improved for the entire league gaining an impressive 14.4 pins. I will share the rest of the results with Mr Laboe. Great season bowlers and good luck at regionals The Loy Norrix Youth in Government delegation made Loy Norrix proud and impressed everyone at the conference this weekend, being the first time Norrix was represented by a delegation at the conference. The Mock Trial team composed of Clara Moss, Yacine Lo, Hannah Locke, Nina Molitor, and Ana Dunfee, who also won the award for best witness, were semi-finalists in the model judiciary program. Darren Sperti was able to get his bill passed through both the House and Senate all the way up to the Youth Governor’s Desk, and Jack Novotny, who received the Award for Outstanding Lobbyist, became the first lobbyist to qualify for the Conference on National Affairs, which Claire Beougher, the pioneer of the program at Norrix and recipient of the Fran Bregger Student Leadership Award, will also be attending. Congratulate any of these YIG members on their hard-earned victories! AAC will be open Monday through Thursday this week from 230-330.
