Today is the final day for donations to Serious Fun! If you haven't already donated and want to, please know what a difference you will make in the lives of so many terminally and seriously ill children There will be a Tea Club meeting, today, March 3 in Ms. Stetten's class from 2:30 - 3:30 pm. Ms. Learner will be running after school GRAD Point today and Wednesday from 2:30 - 4:30 pm in K5W. GRAD Point WILL NOT be held on Thursday this week. Attention students: If you are applying to Early Middle College all applications are due by Friday, March 6 in the counseling office. GSA is cancelled this week. Do you need community service? This Saturday, there are two opportunities to earn service hours - Look outside Mrs. May's door by the C-wing computer lab for more information on working at the Kalamazoo Nature Center for Maple Sugaring in the morning and dressing like a career choice to share with children at the KPS 1st Saturday Literacy Day in the afternoon. Attention all students: Make sure you have reviewed your trimester three schedule. The last day that counselors will be taking schedule change request is Monday, March 9th. Congratulations to the Loy Norrix Orchestra and Loy Norrix Band for earning Division 1 "Superior" ratings at the Michigan School Band & Orchestra Association's District Festival! This is the highest rating you can achieve from the panel of 4 professional music adjudicators. Both groups performed with high levels of musicianship, skill, and quality. The Serious Fun effort to provide funding for terminally and seriously ill children in developing countries is almost ended- next Tuesday will be the last of the donation pick ups. If you haven't dropped a few, nickels, dimes, quarters in the milk donation jugs yet you still have time. YES, bills work also of course. WE currently have 54 classes participating and have collected $989.10 so far. The top ten classes are as follows: 10th is Frazier's class, 9th is Rolfe's class, 8th is Kitzman's class, 7th is Carrow's class, 6th is Bain/Claudio's class, 5th is Hernandez's class, 4th Peterson/May's class, 3rd is Rashad's class, 2nd is Allen/May's class, and once again in 1st place is Leander's class.

As a school we have collected $922.30 which is 1/2 of what we did last year but are thankful for what we have donated so far to Serious Fun. We will have just 2 more pick ups this Thursday and next Tuesday. There will be a pizza lunch for the top 2 donating classrooms. The top 5 donating classrooms are: in 5th place is Hernandez, in 4th place is Peterson/May, in 3rd place is Rashad, in 2nd place is Allen/May and Leander moved into 1st place. If you have an "opt out" form from your parent or guardian you need to bring it to the Main office and put it in the box. Attention Teachers: Announcements are a vital way for students to receive important school information. Please ensure that when announcements are read, students are quiet and attentive. Attention Students: We understand that friends enjoy playing around at times in the hallway or during lunch. However, play-FIGHTING can be dangerous, not only to the person you are playing with, but also to those around you. If you are caught play-fighting, you may be suspended from 1-3 days. Additionally, running around the cafeteria or hallways is dangerous to others and is inappropriate during school. If you want to run in the hallway, see Coach S. after school. Saturday School will be in session this Saturday, February 22 from 9:00 to 12:00 am in room K16. If you have not served detentions or you have multiple instances of hoodie reminders, your Behavior Interventionist will be in contact with you on Thursday or Friday of each week. That’s right, Michigan Colleges Alliance (MCA) will award three $1,000 scholarships to three Kalamazoo Central students and three $1,000 scholarships to three Loy Norrix students. Hockey Fans, your Kalamazoo United Hockey team plays their last regular-season home game this evening at Wings West. Come pack the stands and cheer the team onto a win against the Mid-Michigan Marauders, a Lansing area united team. The puck drops at 5:15 pm. Loy Norrix Deca will have the second annual Talent show on March 15. Auditions are today, February 19, right after school in the J-wing. See you there! Attention Female Students! Join our EFE Information Technology students tomorrow, Thursday February 20 at 1:00 pm for a Women Rock I.T. interactive broadcast. Please sign up for this exciting presentation in the counseling office. Attention 9th or 10th grade students: You should have received a letter at home about an upcoming presentation by the Kalamazoo County Health Department. If you have an "opt out" form from your parent or guardian, please bring it to the C-wing to give it to Ms. Tessin. Attention Students: Please make your way to classes on time. Some of you are getting caught in hall sweeps or are facing detentions due to tardiness. Suspensions are assigned if you are caught in more than one hall sweep in a week. Teachers, you are encouraged to always have your classroom doors locked for security reasons, but must have them locked during hall sweeps. Attention Teachers: If you know of a student who needs to be placed on the no hall pass list, please see the form that was sent out by Ms. Tessin. On Saturday, February 22, please join the fun as our Knights take on the Central Maroon Giants for three games of basketball. During both the women’s’ and men’s’ varsity basketball games all junior and senior students are invited to enter to win a $1,000 scholarship to be used at any of the 14 top independent colleges and universities. That’s right, Michigan Colleges Alliance (MCA) will award three $1,000 scholarships to three Kalamazoo Central students and three $1,000 scholarships to three Loy Norrix students. Winners will be announced at the end of the 3rd quarter of the men’s game. Stop by the Michigan Colleges Alliance booth on Saturday to enter the drawing! Or if you are unable to attend the game visit the counseling office during passing time to complete an entry form. You do not have to be present to win. Attention graduating Seniors! If you have an interest in speaking at your commencement ceremony, you need to sign up in room B18 by Thursday, February 27. Want to be somewhere else? Join the new trip to Italy for summer of 2021.
