You Are What You Treat

When I was seven, I remember spending a half an hour at the start of class taking personality quizzes. Maybe it was a way for us to learn more about our true selves, or maybe it was just because my second grade teacher needed just twenty more minutes to finish off his coffee. Regardless, personality quizzes are a fun, quick but not always accurate way to learn more about you.

With it being Halloween, favorite candy preference can give personality clues. Steve Almond, self-declared “candyfreak” (and author of a book titled as such), has come up with an analysis about what one’s candy preference says about their personality.

A poll by Washington Post compiled Almond’s analysis on ten of the most popular candies. Some of the candies include 3 Musketeers, Twizzlers, and Bit-o-Honey.

3 Musketeers: Does well in groups, but is somewhat pompous, prone to fancy costumes and arcane weapons, wears hats in public that are ill-advised.
Bit-O-Honey: Have contradictory personalities, hoping to express generosity, but also having a passive-aggressive tendency.
Twizzlers: Sickos, truly demented, plastic people living plastic lives.

Loy Norrix seniors Kevin Bechtel and Karl Hansen were asked what their favorite candy was and whether or not they felt Almond’s analysis fit.

Bechtel chose 3 Musketeers. “Yeah, that sounds like me,” Bechtel said. “But I also think I’m like Hershey’s chocolate. It’s the majority of life.”

Hansen chose Twizzlers, but unlike Bechtel, didn’t think it sounded like him at all.

“Wow. Are you serious?” Hansen said when told the Twizzlers analysis. “This is awful. I feel like my life isn’t so plastic.”

Instead of Twizzlers, Hansen felt his personality was more like that of Bit-o-Honey.

“I’m sweet on the inside,” said Hansen.

Whether or not candy can clue you into your personality, be mindful the next time you dive into your pile of Halloween treats. Perhaps it’ll tell you a bit about yourself.

I feel like you should have included more personality/candy’s. I’ve never even heard of Bit of Honey, but maybe that’s a koof on my part. This is a great article though. 🙂
