Every year, Loy Norrix faculty vote on their favorite snacks in a March Madness style bracket. In 2024, they voted on Kit Kats, 2025 was Little Debbie vs Hostess cakes, and this year’s bracket was Pop-Tarts. Flavors were ranked 1-16 based on how they were expected to do. The flavors included in the bracket were: Brown Sugar Cinnamon (1), Cherry (2), Blueberry (3), Raspberry (4), Strawberry (5), Wild Berry (6), Chocolate Fudge (7), Cookies and Creme (8), Thin Mint (9), Confetti Cupcake (10), S’mores (11), Lemon Blueberry Crumble (12), Samoa (Coconut Caramel) (13) Chocolate Chip (14), Hot Fudge Sundae (15), and Cinnamon Roll (16).
The first round went as expected, with Lemon Blueberry Crumble’s triumph over Strawberry as the only upset. Eventual winner Brown Sugar Cinnamon squeaked out a win over 16-seeded Cinnamon Roll by only one vote. Flavors that moved on into the second round were: Brown Sugar Cinnamon, Cherry , Blueberry, Raspberry, Wild Berry, Chocolate Fudge and Lemon Blueberry Crumble. “The Elite Eight” continued the trend set by the original 16 flavors, with six-seeded Wild Berry’s landslide win over the three seeded Blueberry, which was the only surprising outcome. Flavors in the Final Four were Brown Sugar Cinnamon, Cherry,Raspberry, and Wild Berry. At this point, Wild Berry seemed a dark horse favorite to come out on top, but Brown Sugar Cinnamon was still the faculty favorite.
In the Final Four, Wild Berry shocked Norrix with a seven vote win against Cherry to head to the championship. On the other side of the bracket, Brown Sugar Cinnamon took care of business, beating Raspberry by two votes.
In the Championship round, Wild Berry looked to defeat Brown Sugar Cinnamon and cement itself in snack food history. Unfortunately, fairy tale endings don’t always happen, and Brown Sugar Cinnamon dominated in the final, winning 19-10. This year’s tournament was very successful, and staff await the 2027 bracket.
