On March 26, 2026, the Thursday before spring break, Loy Norrix hosted a festival in the B wing and soccer field for its freshman students called Freshman Fest. The event featured a variety of activities, including ultimate frisbee, karaoke, movies, board games and other fun events.
“I think it went really well in the B wing. I was able to stop by a couple different rooms, and it seemed like everybody was having fun,” said freshman math teacher Rosemary Sidwell. “The Link Crew were great about participating in events helping model the behavior to the other students.”
The Link Crew, a student-run organization dedicated to helping incoming freshmen transition to high school, played a key role in keeping the event running smoothly and setting a positive example for students.
“It was really fun. I got to talk to some of my friends. Even though it was a movie night, you got to socialize and stuff,” said freshman Ian Holm.
The festival provided an opportunity for many students to socialize and hang out with friends.
While Holm was in the movie room with his friends, other students like freshmen Claire Rathbun and Caelyn French were in the craft room.
“I thought it was really fun. There were a lot of crafts and a lot of fun stuff we did,” said Rathbun.
As she was making crafts, French was making slime.
“My slime was really pretty and pink, and it was really good. I really had a lot of fun,” said French.
Events like Freshman Fest help build a stronger sense of community, giving freshmen a memorable and positive start to their high school experience. Teachers hope next year’s freshmen class will enjoy it just as much as this year’s did.
