Knights Baseball Has Successful Opening Day

IMG_7824Opening Day for the Knights baseball team was a success; they beat Hackett 4-2. The last time the Knights had an opening day win was in 2012 against Benton Harbor.
Senior Austin Thompson started on the mound for the Knights. He pitched a one-hitter through five innings before sophomore Bruce Allen took over in the sixth inning.
In the top of the sixth inning the Knights had a two out rally starting with by sophomore Tony Dougherty drawing a walk after being down in the count 0-2. The Knights scored 3 runs to go up 4-1.
“I knew he was going to throw me a off speed pitch, so I focused on the pitcher and battled back,” Dougherty said.
In the bottom of the seventh, Allen walked two batters and the field allowed one error, the bases were loaded for Hackett when Allen battled back by striking one batter out and forcing two fly balls to shallow right to close out the game.
