Many high school students struggle with their mental health and guidance, but Loy Norrix’s new club, Knights for Christ, aims to provide students with guidance and a stronger sense of community rooted in Christianity. Every other week, students of all grades gather in room D14 to review and discuss different bible verses and play games.
The recently created club, Knights for Christ, is a new addition to the school. Originally, it was a spinoff of the one previously established by freshman English teacher Joe Kitzman, who held meetings in the mornings of the school week. Now, instead of being held in the mornings, the new club is held after school every other Monday by teacher Hector Dominguez.
“I really want a lot of people to believe that there is a lord and savior and that there is a positive outcome in life,” said sophomore Xiomara Ortiz. “A lot of people might be struggling, and I want them to know there’s a way out of it.”
Members of Knights for Christ can invite anyone to come in if they are struggling with anything. They have the opportunity to learn about the Bible and how to apply different verses to their lives.
“It’s a place people can come to, a safe space to figure out what’s real,” said Dominguez. “A student-led intervention for our school for students who may have any questions.”
The club’s members feel more united as a community focused on one goal. Members of Knights for Christ try to provide an open community where anyone can voice questions without judgment.
“I feel like it’s a very open space, and I don’t feel judged by anyone,” said sophomore Emma Bennet. “I feel closer to God with our group of people.”
The club strives to remain an active and fun community, dedicated to providing a safe space for its members and any newcomers who wish to join and learn more about Christianity.
“Just try to stick to it and really think about what everything means, because it’s not easy to understand,” said sophomore Jackson Smeader. “Sometimes it really takes a while to really understand what God’s trying to show you and what the bible means to you. If you really try to connect with what God’s saying, then it can really change you in a lot of positive ways.”
