For the first time ever in Michigan, a chapter of the National English Honor Society is being founded, and it’s happening right here at Loy Norrix.

The National English Honors Society, or NEHS, is a nationwide organization with the purpose of honoring students who excel in reading and writing.  The program looks especially good on college applications, and recognized students are formally honored at graduation with a cord and a pin. Receiving these honors also looks great on a résumé later in life.

The Loy Norrix Chapter of the NEHS is looking for applicants that excel in their English classes and enjoy reading and writing.  Members will participate in monthly meetings and various projects at Loy Norrix and around the community.  There will also be book readings and discussions, but according to co-sponsor and English teacher Jessica Obado, “They will be fun books, not the ones you read in class.”

The NEHS is also a great opportunity for students simply to be surrounded by people with similar interest of reading and writing in a laid-back environment.

Those interested in applying can see Jessica Obado in A-10 or Brianna English in M-13 to pick up an application.  In order to apply you must have a 3.0 GPA overall, as well as a 3.0 GPA in all of you English classes.
