This past Friday the world said goodbye to actress Marcia Wallace. You may not know her from her appearances on The Bob Newhart Show, Full House, Murphy Brown, and many other television shows but you do know her voice. For the last 23 years Marcia has been the voice actress on the Simpsons as the 4th grade teacher Edna Krabappel.

Shortly after Marcia’s death on the 25th of October the Simpsons executive producer, Al Jean, said in a statement that they will retire the character Edna from the show as the character is “irreplaceable”.

Marcia had been battling breast cancer since 1985. This motivated her to be a speaker on the subject and even won her the Gilda Radner Courage Award from New York’s Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

When Marcia passed away on Friday she was 70 years old, being born on November 1, 1942.

Her death has saddened many fans of The Simpsons cartoon. To commemorate her memory fans have already made montages of Edna using he trademark ‘HA!’ after a sarcastic remark.
