Travis Scott Brings the Rodeo to Town

RodeoalbumdeluxeAlbum: Rodeo (Deluxe)
Artist: Travis Scott
Genre: Hip-Hop/Rap
Release Date: September 4, 2015

Rodeo (Deluxe)” is the 1st debut album from the hip-hop/rap artist Travis Scott released September 4th, 2015.  It consists of 16 tracks and achieved moderate success with positive critiques.
“[…] The originality of Scott’s sound within this new movement provides for a strong rookie effort leaving the listener excited for a career that is just getting started,” said Jason Bisnoff of HipHopDX.
The album opens up with the song “Pornography.” It starts off with Hip-Hop artist T.I. narrating the song, which is similar to Kid Cudi’s songs “In My Dreams (Cudder Anthem)” and “Up Up & Away.” Legendary Hip-Hop artist, Common, is featured in and narrates both songs. Scott comes in with a echoing, dreamy, distorted and autotuned singing voice providing the hook or the chorus.
T.I gives another narration in the middle of the song when Scott hypes up the song by making the beat more aggressive and spits a couple of lyrical rhymes. T.I. wraps up the song on a positive note.
“La Flame says ‘let your ambition carry you’,” said T.I.
Antidote” is the 9th track on the album. Scott wrote this song for people who like to ‘turn up’ and party. This song was not intended for the album, but due to popular demand it was added. The production of the instrumental beat is very lazy on its own, but Scott’s special autotune effect, otherwise known as the “Travis Effect,” just makes the song better. The hook is very catchy and the lyrics are aggressive towards the end. It will have your head bopping back and forth.
Ok Alright” is the 15th track and the 1st bonus track on “Rodeo (Deluxe).” This track features Schoolboy Q and SZA, and the song is divided into two parts. The first part of the track starts out with Scott and Q saying “okay” repetitively throughout the hook. Towards the end of Scott’s first verse, you can hear Kid Cudi’s influence on his music because of the psychedelic voice used when he says “oooh yeah.” The instrumental is really boppy, but more hype than the second half.
You can tell when the second part of the song starts because of the drumstick tapping the Hi-Hat which is heard throughout the whole song. If you like a powerful, dreamy, heavy synth song, listen to the second half of this track and see for yourself. Just like the first half, you hear the word “alright” a lot, but in a smoother manner. SZA provides her phenomenal vocals towards the end of the track and without Schoolboy Q in this track, it wouldn’t be the same. His presence is heavy.
If you’re a fan of artists such as Kid Cudi, M.I.A, Kanye West, Outkast, Bon Iver, Bjork or genres such as Hip-Hop/Rap, Trap, etc., then this album is meant for you.
